My husband received a hard copy of our NOA2 which confirmed that our petition has been approved and said that they sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center (NVC) 32 Rochester Avenue, Portsmouth. The NVC will be in charge to give a case number (For the Philippines, it always start with an MNL in other country is different) and will send the petition to the US embassy where I will be interviewed for my visa.
Note: Please bear in mind that this is just based on my K1 visa journey experienced.
This is a sample of NOA2
How Long Does It Take To Get A Case Number From NVC
The NVC processing should be complete within 2-4 weeks after receiving the petition from USCIS. According to the NOA2 letter, you should allow a minimum of 30 days for Department of state processing before contacting NVC. If you have not received any corresponding from NVC within 30 days, you may contact the NVC by email at NVCINQUIRY@state.gov. And you will need to enter the USCIS receipt number from your approval notice in the subject line of your email, you can see the receipt number in your NOA2 letter. In order to receive info about your petition, you will need to include the petitioner name and the date of birth, and the beneficiary name and date of birth in the body of the email.
Can I Call NVC
If you think they didn’t corresponding to you at the given time or didn’t respond to your email, yes you can call them.
NVC Phone Number
Customer Service Representative can speak with you From Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m EST to 12:00 midnight EST.
When you call, make sure you have your receipt number, petitioner name, and date of birth, beneficiary name, and date of birth. You can check NVC contact details here.
Our Own Experience
We got our NOA2 hard copy 1 week after I-129F approval. June 23, 2016, is our approval date but we decided not to email or call NVC after that, my husband said let us finish the 30 days they have said in the NOA2 letter. Sometimes I’m checking our status to online because I’m counting the days but still no update from NVC but to my surprised at exactly 29 days from June 23 we’ve got our case number.
But there are cases that some couples started to call or email NVC after 2 weeks but unfortunately, they got nothing, believed me you can get your case number at the right time because I also know some couples who never call and email NVC, but they get their case number before 30 days. If they failed to give your case number within 30 days that’s the time you can do action but give NVC time at least 3 weeks then in your 4th week period of waiting that’s time you can call them.
When Can I Receive NVC Letter
After you get your case number the NVC will send the hard copy to the petitioner stating they are now forward the petition to the US embassy and saying that transfer process can take several weeks and the US embassy will contact me (beneficiary) when they are ready to process the petition.
The US embassy will send the letter to all beneficiary right after they process the petition, there are cases that they get the notice letter from the US Embassy so late, like mine I’ve got my letter from US Embassy after my interviewed to US embassy and other said they get their letter when they are already in the US, their family from their country received the letter but anyway, the US Embassy letter is just saying you can now pay your K1 visa and can schedule your interview. They also include the case number and traveling applicants name to the letter, so if you have child or K2 in your I-129F petition their name is also included to traveling applicants in that letter.
What Should I Do While Waiting Case Number
Before we apply K1 visa we all know that they required medical, so I suggest while waiting case number from NVC all you have to do is make yourself healthy, you need to be healthy for you to have a smooth process in your K1 visa journey. If your not healthy it can be a cause of delay, some people pay their visa right after they get case number and schedule the interview which is OK but the problem is what if your medical exam has a problem, you need to adjust your interview schedule or you need to hurry up to retake the other part of medical exam that you need to repeat. And the next problem is if the US Embassy partner clinic is very far to your place, if you are having a problem to your medical exam you need to come back to the US embassy partner clinic no matter how far you are, US Embassy won’t allow an applicant to do the medical examination anywhere you want they just assigning 1 trust medical. Aside preparation to the medical exam, you must prepare all the documents needed to bring to your interview, In Philippines, they require to bring original NBI, CENOMAR, Birth Certificate etc. you can also prepare all your old conversations, pictures together, remittances and anything that can prove your genuine relationship.
What Should You Do While Waiting Case Number From NVC
– Eat healthy food every day
– Drink lots of water
– Drink milk before bedtime
– Sleep at the right time
– Exercise everyday
– Take vitamins
– Prepare all documents you need to bring to K1 Visa interview
I remember when I was in the Philippines, during my K1 process I stop eating unhealthy food even soft drinks, junk food and street food. Even if I want to eat it and I’m craving too many foods I fight for it because somebody told me I have to be healthy during my medical. Which is make sense because it helps you to keep going on your K1 visa process if without any delay and any hassle. In my next post, I will tell you how I prepare my documents and my medical examination.
We just pay Visa services because I and my husband are both busy to our work plus the major reason is we need to apply K1 visa and CRBA of our daughter at the same time which is confusing for us but if it’s only K1 visa I believed we can do it on our own.
